Spring Auto Maintenance to Resolve Winter Damage

We still have a couple of cold months before summer defrosts us, but now is still a good time to have your automobile checked from the roof to the tires to see if Old Man Winter caused any damage. Just as you have your home’s HVAC unit serviced, get your car serviced in the spring, as well. This gives the certified mechanics here at Ultimate Auto Repair a chance to make sure that your vehicle is ready for the summer.

A/C Check

Have a vehicle air conditioning inspection to make certain that you can count on this system to keep you comfortable when the mercury finally rises. An A/C check allows us to make sure the system doesn’t have any leaks and the condenser, compressor, and fans are all working as they should be.

Battery Test

Cold winter weather reduces the amount of power your car’s battery can generate. If your battery is three years or older, schedule a battery test as part of your spring maintenance to make sure the winter didn’t deplete its reserves. This helps you avoid a dead battery in the spring and summer.

Belts and Hoses

Winter is also hard on your vehicle’s belts and hoses. They shrink and contract as they heat up and cool down, and if they are already old, the cold weather can also harden them. This combination can break the belts prematurely and it can also crack the hoses in your engine.

Fluid Check

Let us check all of your automotive fluids in the spring. It’s probably time for an oil change anyway. It’s important to make sure that all fluids are clean, fresh, and topped off before we head into the warmer weather that accompanies our beautiful summers.

Tire Tread Measurement

Now is a good time to measure your tire tread depth, as well. It’s also a good idea to check to make sure that your tire tread is wearing down evenly. If you are good about keeping the right air pressure in your tires and having them rotated every 6,000 miles, your tread is probably in good shape.

Underside Check

Finally, we rely on road salt to keep our icy roads safe throughout the winter. The salt may help your tires maintain their grips on the roads, but it can also severely damage the underside of your automobile. Salt increases oxidation, which increases rusting and holes in the metal.
